Massachusetts: Here Is Where Adults Can Go To Surf Camp

You are never too old to start. That is perhaps one of the more encouraging things people can hear when thinking about that thing they've always wanted to try. In Massachusetts, there are numerous options for adults to go to surf camp.

Why would one entertain that thought? Well, perhaps because it's a sport of deep intrigue. Maybe you have changed your lifestyle and have a newfound energy or view on life. In the Bay State, we are fortunate because of our access to the ocean.

As someone who moved to the ocean for the shadows of New York City, I was immediately in love with the saltwater waves that were at my fingertips. I wanted to surf right away. In 2017 I took advantage of Northeast Surfing offering the last week of August as an adult surf camp. From 6pm - 8pm, Monday through Friday, we would gather at Nantasket Beach in Hull and learn the art of surfing.

Simple technique adjustments, learning to read the tides, and relentless repetition helped me take up the sport where it now fits into a "like riding a bike" comparison.

Although I constantly reminded myself to pay attention to where my eyes were focused, it was the time with the seven other adults that really helped me surf. We all went from being a mess, to becoming obsessed with the thrill of surfing. We wiped out together, got better together, and laughed endlessly.

Over the past ten years, the shores of Rhode Island and Massachusetts have become hotspots for catching some of the best waves on the Atlantic coast. In recognition of the region fully adopting surf culture, major retail brands have opened locations in the area over the past year.
