Massachusetts Has the 12th Most Expensive Groceries in the US – How Much a Week?
A new study has confirmed the worst kept secret in the Bay State: groceries are expensive in Massachusetts!! I remember not too long ago when I’d complain about how I couldn’t get in and out of the grocery store for under a hundred bucks. Today – double that!
The new study from Help Advisor ranked US cities on their average grocery price and Boston made the Top 20 Most Expensive in America, finishing up in 12th place. The average household in Boston spends a whopping $265.25 a week on groceries. Ouch!
As far as states go, if you want to live where the groceries are cheapest you might look at real estate in Wisconsin. Wisconsin is the state with the most reasonable groceries. There the average household spends $221.46 a week on their grocery bill. Versus Boston’s numbers, Wisconsin residents pays around $176 less per month on groceries than us.
The most expensive groceries in America are in Miami, Florida. The average household in Miami is dropping about $328 on groceries per week – that’s about $224 more expensive per month than Massachusetts and just about $426 per month more expensive than Wisconsin. Houston, Riverside, San Francisco, and Los Angeles rounded out the Top 5 cities with the most expensive groceries in the country.
Bottom line: no matter what city or state you live in and no matter how much you spend on your weekly groceries, if you’re a parent, when you get home and everything is put away you’re bound to hear, “there’s nothing to eat in the house.” Fun times.
So that’s how we stack up with our grocery prices. Now how do we stack up with our politeness. While it’s pretty well known that Mass has expensive groceries, we’re also pretty well known for our saltiness from time to time, huh? Another new city says YES we’re rude… but… not the rudest (yesssssss!!). Check out where we land below:
