What is the life expectancy of Massachusetts residents compared to residents of other states in the US? Well, good news my Bay State neighbors: we’re kind of sort of the vampires of the United States. Wait… vampires live forever, right? Unless they get stabbed with a steak or see daylight? So tough yet so delicate…

The Center for Disease Control (or the CDC as we’ve come to know it) update their U.S. state life tables every handful of years. These tables look at the health of the nation, breaking down life expectancy from birth in each of the 50 US states. According to the latest data, Massachusetts residents have a Top 5 Life Expectancy in the US.

Hawaii reigned supreme in the data. Residents there life the longest, with an average life expectancy of 80.7 years. Washington state came in second with an average life expectancy of 79.2 years-old for residents there. Minnesota came in third. Life expectancy for Minnesota residents averages out at 79.1 years old. California residents live to an average age of 79.0, good for fourth place. And then here comes good ol’ Massachusetts in fifth place, just making that Top 5 we keep beating our chest about. LOL Massachusetts residents live to the age of 79.0 as well, just like California, though if you break the numbers down a little further we’re actually a solid #5. Not too shabby!

  • ARLINGTON, MA

    Arlington finished at #20 – the 20th Best Small City to Live In in the US. It had an overall score of 68.08 out of 100.

  • NEEDHAM, MA

    Needham finished at #14 – the 14th Best Small City to Live In in the US. It had an overall score of 68.82 out of 100.

  • MELROSE, MA

    Melrose finished at #8 – the 8th Best Small City to Live In in the US. It had an overall score of 69.21 out of 100.

  • MILTON, MA

    Milton finished at #7 – the 7th Best Small City to Live In in the US. It had an overall score of 69.29 out of 100.

  • LEXINGTON, MA

    Lexington finished at #2 – the 2nd Best Small City to Live In in the US. It had an overall score of 70.61 out of 100.
