Massachusetts has one of the worst cities in America for pedestrians, according to a new study. Some cities and towns are made for walkers while others... well... just aren't. I'm sure you've been aware when you've been in an area which has put much planning and care into protecting it's pedestrians while being mindful of motorists. I'm sure you've seen the other side too as you walk while surrounded by traffic thinking to yourself " a sidewalk would be nice!"

A new study by 1Point21 Interactive in collaboration with Miller and Hines Law dives into the varying levels of pedestrian satisfaction and safety. The study analyzed pedestrian fatality rates and found that only two New England cities made the Top 25 Deadliest Cities in America for Pedestrians.

Pompano Beach, Florida was named the most dangerous, deadliest city in the US for pedestrians. There were 8.9 pedestrian fatalities per 100,000 residents in the year period analyzed. Victorville, California came in second worst and Baton Rouge, Louisiana came in third most dangerous. I like saying "most dangerous" more than "deadly" as said in the study. "Deadly" gives me the heebie-jeebies for obvious reasons however they will be used interchangeably in this article depending what pops out of my fingers at the moment while typing.

New Haven, Connecticut was named the 14th deadliest (switched it up there, see?) city in America for pedestrians. There were 6.48 pedestrian fatalities per 100,000 residents in New Haven in the year period looked at in the study.

And the most dangerous city in New England for pedestrians is..... SPRINGFIELD, MASSACHUSETTS. Springfield was unlucky #13 in the country when it comes to deadliest cities for pedestrians. There were 6.49 pedestrian fatalities per 100,000 residents in the year observed for the study.

What are the best and worst driving cities in Massachusetts?

While we're talking about scary roadways, I was very surprised to come across a study that pulled no punches and listed off Massachusetts Best and Worst Driving Cities. QuoteWizard.com analyzed over 45,000 insurance quotes from Massachusetts drivers in 2018 and ranked cities by the highest rate of incidents.

Don't we all want to be considered 'good drivers?' Becoming a driver is such a milestone moment in your life. That drivers test is such a tense experience. Alone in the car with a person whose job is to judge you. Fun times.

I think we have a certain sense of pride when it comes to our driving, especially collectively as we begin grouping people by their geographic borders. It would sting a little if you found out your town was deemed worst drivers in the state, wouldn't it? Or would you wear it as a badge of pride?

I was very surprised to come across a study that pulled no punches and listed off Massachusetts Best and Worst Driving Cities. QuoteWizard.com analyzed over 45,000 insurance quotes from Massachusetts drivers in 2018 and ranked cities by the highest rate of incidents. Incidents as defined by QuoteWizard include accidents, speeding tickets, DUIs, and citations. The info is slightly dated but I was ready (though a little nervous) to see where my town landed on the list. I hope my driving skills didn't sink us!

So let's see how everything shook out. First gently golf clap while scrolling (which sounds difficult) as I present to you the Top 10 Best Driving Cities in Massachusetts. Then stay for the main event: *gulp* The 10 WORST Driving Cities in Massachusetts.

Enjoy the countdowns. Oh and don't blame me I'm just the messenger. Please stick around afterwards for the free hot and cold buffet. Just kidding that doesn't exist. I hope your home city wins.
