Ohio Auto Shop Employees Detain Thief By Lifting Him With A Forklift
Employees at Arlington Auto Wrecking in Akron, Ohio took things into their own hands when they caught a thief inside a vehicle on the property. To catch the assailant, the auto shop used their best Scooby Doo methods and used a forklift to stop the thief in the car.
According to reports, employees at the auto-wrecking business were fed up with thieves breaking in and stealing from them. Stealing catalytic converters and other valuable parts are being taken off vehicles frequently at this location.
When a suspect they believed had broken in and stolen before was stealing from another vehicle on the lot, the employees jumped into action. This person had been caught and let go once before and the employees claim they caught him a second time but he escaped.
This time, they had him. They brought the forklift over to the vehicle he was inside and lifted it 20 feet in the air. They then refused to lower the vehicle until police arrived.
When an employee called 911 even the operator on the line got a laugh out of the situation. When police arrived they easily took the suspect into custody. You can see some of the police body cam footage of the arrest in the news story below.
The suspect that was arrested was identified as 26-year-old Alexander Funk. When he was arrested he was also in possession of a backpack with a sawzall, sawzall blades, and other hand tools. When officers asked why he had those tools on him he claimed he was using them to steal copper pipes.
Funk was arrested for criminal trespassing and possessing criminal tools.

The employees at this Ohio Auto Shop really used their available resources, the forklift, to catch this thief in the car. It’s like the kid in Home Alone. He knows his house and what’s around him that he can use to detour the Wet Bandits. Here, the Ohio Auto Shop employees knew they could use the forklift to catch the thief while he was still in the car. That’s smart thinking! I don’t think I could have thought of that.
It goes to show the benefits of knowing your surroundings.
