New Massachusetts Bill Wants To Ban Weaponizing Robots in the State

A new bill in Massachusetts is attempting to make it illegal to attach guns to robots in the Commonwealth. As more and more people fear robots and A.I., with some reports suggesting that they could lead to the end of our civilization, how is this not a no-brainer?

The bill, filed this week by state Rep. Lindsay Sabadosa and state Sen. Michael Moore, would prohibit “the manufacture, sale, and operation of robotic devices or drones that are mounted with a weapon.” It's the first bill of it's kind in the country.

Boston Dynamics is among the many supporters of the bill which would ban the weaponization of robots except by the military and police. This keeps Robocop as a future possibility.

Per the bill, people who violate the laws would face fines ranging from $5,000 to $25,000.

According to GoTo’s report, 33% of Americans “entirely trust” the information that AIs provide them with. On the opposite side of the spectrum, only 10% of people don’t trust its reliability at all. 56% of those who responded said that they do trust the information AI can offer them, but they still double-check it manually afterwards.
