Taylor Momsen on New Pretty Reckless LP, Going Through Depression After Chris Cornell’s Death
The Pretty Reckless made their triumphant return last week with the release of their new single “Death By Rock and Roll.” While the release date of their fourth studio album (also titled Death By Rock And Roll) is currently up in the air thanks to the coronavirus pandemic, frontwoman Taylor Momsen shared details pertaining to some of the album’s guest appearances.
Appearing on Talkin’ Rock with Meltdown, Momsen confirmed Soundgarden’s Matt Cameron and Kim Thayil appear on a track titled “Only Love Can Save Me Now” and Rage Against The Machine’s Tom Morello is featured on a track titled “And So It Went.”
“It’s hard to talk about these songs before they’re out. But, man, I’m dying for [people] to hear them because they slam,” said Momsen. “This record really feels like a rebirth for us, and a lot of ways it almost feels like the first record in the sense that we really threw everything we had at it. We worked so hard on it, and I’m just excited for it to be out and have people come on this journey with me and see where it took us. I think it took us to, in my opinion, to a new level. It’s a new and improved Pretty Reckless.”
The Pretty Reckless have been on a significant break since the release of their 2016 album Who You Selling For and for good reason. The band was out tour supporting Soundgarden when Chris Cornell suddenly passed away in May 2017.
Momsen explains, “We had a few hard years. I’m not gonna lie. I went pretty down. Not to get too heavy into it, but I went pretty down into depression, and it took music to get me out of it again. I finally started writing again to get out everything that I was feeling, and that is what turned into the record that you are all going to hear hopefully very soon. I know it’s cliché, but music has saved my life time and time again. It’s the thing that I can always rely on and turn to, and it’s always there for me. It’s always supported me, so I support it.”
