Gallop Poll
According to Gallop ONLY 21% of workers are engaged at work. 33% are thriving in their overall well being. Much of this can be attributed to lasting consequences of the pandemic, higher inflation, and technology changing the work space. A Gallop.com headline says:
Before the pandemic, engagement and wellbeing were rising globally for nearly a decade — but now, they’re stagnant.
“Living for the weekend,” “watching the clock tick,” “work is just a paycheck.” These are the mantras of most global workers. With only 21% of employees engaged at work and 33% of employees thriving in their overall wellbeing, most would say that they don’t find their work meaningful, don’t think their lives are going well or don’t feel hopeful about their future.
How Can We Cope?
This article is not about mindfulness. But, it’s the perfect time to bring it up. One way I keep myself engaged and upbeat is through meditation. I meditate once each morning, for twenty minutes. Many studies have shown that meditation changes us neurologically, allowing us to observe our surroundings much better. When we observe our surroundings, it allows us to react better, with the right choice, rather than lets say, over react. Meditation and mindfulness practices, like, unplugging our screens and spending more time in nature, add more space in our mind, helping us to relax. Adding more space in our mind and heart, allows gratitude to enter. I found once we are more grateful for what we have, the things we want begin to show up.
