The Medford Police Department announced on Monday, March 31, that its officers have received several reports from residents about receiving text messages indicating that their License to Carry is expiring.

Upon investigation, the police department concluded that the messages were not legitimate and a scam. Massachusetts does not send communications about a License to Carry via text message.

According to a report by the Patch of Medford, the text message comes with a link that invites recipients to click the link. The department strongly advises people not to do so.

If you receive this message, you should delete it. If you use an iPhone, you can report the communication as “junk.”
