Blind Massachusetts Cat Rescued After Falling Into Icy Pond

Some good samaritans saved a blind 20-year-old cat who fell into an icy pond in Westford, Mass. this week.

Westford Animal Control shared the remarkable story on their Facebook page. They said they received a call about a cat being spotted floating on a piece of ice about 30-40 feet off the shore of Nabnasset Pond. Eventually, the ice gave way, and the cat ended up submerged in the frigid water with only its head above the surface.

Westford Animal Control wrote, "Moments before officers arrived, two good samaritans, Kris and Nate, who were working at a home on Fletcher Lane noticed what was happening and immediately took action. Nate hopped into a nearby rowboat and Kris pushed the boat out as far as he could helping Nate navigate from shore."

Nate was able to reach the cat, got him out of the water, took him inside, dried him off, and wrapped him in blankets. Westford Animal Control said the cat was "shivering, lethargic and in shock" and immediately taken to a nearby animal hospital. The cat's temperature at the animal hospital was so low that it didn't register on the thermometer.

Eventually, the cat, named Tiki, was identified by its owners. NBC's New England Cable News reports that Tiki's owners said he's back home and "walking around like nothing ever happened."
