Will Massachusetts Have a White Christmas?
Can a Massachusetts white Christmas be expected in a couple of weeks, or will conditions just be cold?
According to the Old Farmer’s Almanac, there is no chance of snow in Massachusetts. In fact, nearly all of New England has no snow in the forecast, except for Northern Maine where there is a chance of snow.
This prediction coincides with the Old Farmer’s Almanac’s forecast for the entire winter, which says this winter is expected to be more on the mild side. The Almanac states, “Temperatures will be average to slightly above average during winter (though 2% colder than average during February). The region will also experience shots of cold in mid-December, early and late January, and late February.” As for snow overall this winter, snowfall is expected to be below average.
Boston Tops List of Most Beautiful U.S. Cities in Winter
Boston was named the most beautiful U.S. city in winter by the U.K.-based hospitality company Premier Inn.
Premier explained that they used “eye-tracking software” to determine this list. They said, “We asked participants to look at images of various locations in winter and measured which held their gaze the longest.”
Premier Inn noted of Boston, “The city’s colonial architecture takes on a nostalgic quality when covered in snow, while the Freedom Trail becomes a magical walking route. Boston Common and the Public Garden transform into winter wonderlands, and the Museum of Fine Arts offers warm halls filled with world-class art.”
Rounding out the list of the top five most beautiful U.S. cities in winter were New York (2), Salt Lake City (3), Washington D.C. (4), and Aspen (5).
This is the Most Popular Christmas Song in Massachusetts
‘Tis the season for Christmas music, and FinanceBuzz has determined the most popular Christmas song in every state.
So, what ended up being the most popular Christmas song in Massachusetts? No, it wasn’t Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas is You.”; it’s actually the classic Beach Boys hit “Little Saint Nick.”
Written by Brian Wilson and Mike Love, “Little Saint Nick” was originally released as a stand-alone single in December 1963, but it was later featured on The Beach Boys’ Christmas Album, which was released in November 1964. “Little Saint Nick” peaked on the Billboard Hot 100 chart at No. 25 in January 2024.
Only one other state has Massachusetts’ exquisite taste; Maine’s most popular Christmas song was also “Little Saint Nick.” Despite the Beach Boys’ association with California, The Golden State’s most popular Christmas was “Jingle Bells.” (What a snore, right?)
As for how each state’s Christmas song was determined, FinanceBuzz says it collected Google Trends data “on the 25 highest-charting Christmas songs on the Billboard Hot 100 for the week of Christmas 2023.” The outlet further noted, “For this analysis, we looked at ‘Search Interest’ data for each song in every state.”
