Florida Couple Facing $47K In Home Repairs After Man Poses As A Contractor

A Florida couple is facing $47,000 in home repairs after a man posed as a contractor. Clearly, he puts the "con" in "contractor."

The incident happened at the couple's home in Milton, Florida. A 34-year-old Gadsden County man is believed to the suspect in this crazy story. Can you imagine trying to pose as a contractor? Who is this guy, George Costanza, pretending to be an architect?

You've probably heard stories of people pretending to be police officers or even a fake fire fighter, but a man who poses as a contractor is something I've never heard of. It goes to show you have to be careful with who you hire and always make sure to do your homework!

According to the Pensacola News Journal, the Santa Rosa County Sheriff's Office issued a fraud alert regarding Aron Carrillo after he allegedly took $19,000 from the Milton couple, who believed he was a licensed contractor. Documents obtained by the Pensacola News Journal said, "Carrillo erected three walls under the existing residential structure and fed wiring from the attic to the newly installed walls. After completing part of the work, Carrillo left the location and failed to return to finish the contracted job."

Eventually, investigators found that Carrillo did not have an active building contractor or electrical contractor's license and never obtained permits to work on the home in Milton. It was also determined that his work didn't meet code and the structural integrity of the residential structure was cut, per PNJ. You do not want that happening! Having a sound structure would be pretty important if you plan on living inside that house. The last thing you want is for it all to come falling down on you randomly one night. It's a good thing he was caught!

Carrillo has been arrested and is now facing charges in Santa Rosa including grand theft between $10,000-$20,000, contracting without a license, electrical contracting without a license, contracting work without a building permit, and electrical contracting without a permit, per Pensacola News Journal. Additionally, he's facing charges in other Florida counties and has conducted business in Alabama and Louisiana.

In the end, it's estimated that his work would cost the family $47K in damages. Anyone who has worked with 3Carrillos LLC or Tres Carrillos LLC should contact the Santa Rosa Sheriff's Office. You can see Carrillo's mugshot below.

While committing crimes may seem black and white (you either broke the law or you didn't), there are certainly some crimes that are dumber than others.
