2024 Rumble Semis: 8 of Boston’s Best Battle for Finals Slot
The Rock & Roll Rumble Prelims were a blast. And now the stage is set for the 2024 Rumble Semis. So let’s see who made it through.
For the uninitiated, the Rumble has been Boston’s preeminent Battle of the Bands since 1979. In the last 45 years (give or take), the multi-night showcase has launched multiple local acts onto the national scene.
The Rumble also acts as a living history of the local scene. Head over here for a quick history lesson. You’ll also get a handful standout moments from over the years, chosen by yours truly.
2024 Rumble Semis: 8 Bands Remain
The six-night run of the 2024 Prelims kicked off on Thursday, April 4 at the Middle East Upstairs. TWIG took the night, fronted by singer-songwriter and guitarist Karina Langstrom.
The action continued on Friday, April 4 and Saturday, April 5. Raucous Worcester band Gut Health took Friday, while hooky alt-rockers Wire Lines were Saturday’s winning act.
Things picked back up on Thursday, April 11. An electric set pushed Looking Glass War ahead of the competition. On Friday, April 12, Lowell alt rock act The Ghouls were the night’s big winners.
The Prelims wrapped up on Saturday, April 12 with another Lowell winner: RoseR. As is the tradition, two high-scoring runners-up have been chosen as wildcards: Other Brother Darryl and CE Skidmore & the Damn Fine Band.
2024 Rumble Semis: Get Into It
The 2024 Rumble Semis are split into two nights: Friday, April 19 and Saturday, April 20. The action now shifts to Sonia, 10 Brookline St. in Cambridge’s Mental, er, Central Square. Both shows are all-ages and tickets are just $20.
