A Conjoined Twin got married but her attached sister remains unwed! Certainly, this has to be a very unique situation. So, how does it work?
Abby Hensel is a conjoined twin who got married, but her sister remains single. At least, in a way. Here’s more on the story.
Conjoined Twin Gets Married While Other Does Not
Abby and her sister Brittany first gained notoriety when they appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show in 1996. Now, Abby is a married woman after marrying Josh Bowling, a nurse and United States Army veteran, according to People.
In the sisters’ Facebook profile photo, the conjoined twins are shown wearing a wedding dress while Bowling stands next to them holding their hand in a suit. People reports that the sisters are now 5th grade teachers and live in Minnesota.
Despite them both sharing a wedding dress on the special day, only Abby got married. However, because they’re conjoined Brittany shared the wedding dress and the moment with her sister at the alter. That means she also attended the Honeymoon with the couple and participated in any other post-wedding tradition.
It seems like Brittany was a good sport during her twin sister’s wedding. She could have refused to go along with it and that could have created some massive problems. Hopefully, Abby will return the same courtesy her sister gave her when Brittany gets married one day. It’s an incredibly unique situation.
People reports that the two sisters share a bloodstream and all organs below the waist. Abby controls their right arm and leg while Brittany controls the left, per People. I’m largely unfamiliar with conjoined twins, outside of the movie starring Matt Damon and Greg Kinnear, Stuck On You.
People reports that when the twins were born, doctors presented an option to their parents about separating the twins, but said there was little chance that both would survive the procedure. The parents refused to pick which one of their children would live and opted to keep them conjoined.
TLC also highlighted the sisters on a reality series, “Abby & Brittany” which followed the sisters as they prepared to graduate college and travel across Europe, per People.

Cort Freeman was born and raised in Metro Detroit. He was named Clarkston High School 2009 Class Clown 13 years after graduating. Totally normal thing to happen. That’s thanks to his time spent as an Intern at Comedy Central and Social Media Correspondent for The Colbert Report. Cort has done comedy across the country, both standing up and sitting down. When he’s not trying to make you laugh on-air and online, he’s probably at home enjoying his favorite shows like Seinfeld, South Park, and The Office. He’s also totally uncomfortable writing about himself in the third person. Cort enjoys writing about comedy, food, sports, and entertainment. So, basically anything and everything.
