Tom Morello Reflects on Being Inducted into the Metal Hall of Fame
Tom Morello received another accolade this week when he was inducted into the Heavy Metal Hall of Fame. Morello was part of the 2024 class that also included Eddie Trunk, Mick Mars, Sebastian Bach, Tim “Ripper” Owens, Carlos Cavazo, Penelope Spheeris, Cleopatra Records, Mikeal Maglieri/Whisky A Go Go and Biohazard.
Morello was inducted by fellow guitarist John 5. The Rage guitarist reflected on the night and the honor in a post to Instagram. In the post, he cited some of his favorite memories of metal giants, including Gene Simmons, Judas Priest, Black Sabbath, Motley Crue, Randy Rhoads and more.
“Last night was an honor because heavy metal is in the DNA of everything I’ve ever done,” wrote Morello. “It’s about being true to yourself and not caring what anyone thinks.”
RATM’s Rock Hall Induction
Before receiving his induction into the Metal Hall of Fame, Morello and Rage Against the Machine were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in November as part of the 2023 class. Ice-T did the honors of inducted Rage into the Rock Hall.
As we previously reported, the rapper said, “Rage broke every rule they could to let you know they were in the building.” On top of that, he made sure to note the band is responsible for what he called the best rock lyric: “F— you, I won’t do what you tell me,” which is from their debut single “Killing in the Name.”
Ice-T also made sure to mention some of Rage’s surprising actions over the years.
“You can’t impress me with normal stuff,” said Ice-T. “You gotta impress me with stuff like suing the U.S. State Department for using their music at Guantanamo Bay for torturing. Who does that? Rage does that! How about 1993, pulling up in Lollapalooza, butt naked with duct tape. Protesting against the PMRC, who does that? Rage Against the Machine does; I respect the hell out of his band.”
