Massachusetts: Boston Is One Of The Top Cities For EV Charging

The state of Massachusetts has been at the forefront of clean energy initiatives for a few years now. This of course includes urban mobility plans aimed to encourage electric vehicles. In a recent report by Route Fifty, Boston was named as a top state when it comes to EV charging stations available.

Back in 2022 the state released energy and climate plans that target long-term goals that extend out to 2025 and 2030. The state described it as "the Commonwealth’s plans for 2025 and 2030 that maximize the ability to realize a 2050 future in which the heat in homes, power in vehicles, and electric grid can all operate with a minimum reliance on fossil fuels, and natural and working lands can be protected from conversion and better managed and restored to enhance carbon sequestration."

Two years later, we are off to a good start. In fact, you may notice many top-brand car dealerships in your area have lots filled with EV and hybrid vehicle. Take Chrysler Jeep for example. All of those Wranglers you are seeing that have the blue tow-hooks and light blue accents are branded that way to show they are hybrid vehicles.

"The Jeep brand certainly saw a strong demand for PHEV in last year – in fact, the 2023 Jeep Wrangler 4xe was named America's Best-Selling Plug-In Hybrid in 2022," Kelly Automotive Group explained. Kelly Automotive is one of the largest dealership chains in the state, owning and operating eight different dealerships.

Route Fifty estimates that Boston has 1,111 residents per car charger. ChargeHub states there are 1,102 charging station ports in the city. 40% of them offer free charging. Combined with another New England market, Manchester, New Hampshire, Route Fifty says there are over 5,000 chargers within all the stations and ports in these area. This ranks the Boston / Manchester cluster as the city with the third most for EV charging stations. This is only behind Los Angeles and San Francisco, California.

There are 13 Jeep Wrangler body and model types. This ranges from the Sport entry level to the top of the line, Rubicon 392. Within this scope of Wrangler variations, the price points vary tremendously. Depending upon which model you select and the options added in, a 2024 Wrangler can start as low as $33,690. The most expensive option can run you close to $90,000.

Whether you are going for a slick and sporty look in a Sahara model or an aggressive look with a Rubicon, the white exterior with the white top and dark wheels is a home run. It's like the Wrangler dressed up for a fancy formal affair. Certain models like the High Altitude allow for a white grill and bumper, turning this Wrangler into the most "White-Out" option possible. It's sharp and really meshes well with the hustle and bustle of a busy city.

One of the biggest re-model enhancements the Wrangler came out during the past ten years was the Sky One-Touch roof option. This is a essentially the a button you push from inside that opens a soft-top roof from the inside. It's essentially an oversized moonroof that opens above both levels of seating. The light Earl Blue color with this option looks unmatched driving around the bends and curves of a suburban town. It has the "what color is that?" effect.
