Where do Wallets Shrink and Dreams Disappear? This is the Most Expensive Beach Vacation in the World
Um, are you ready to have your piggy bank shattered? Your dreams of a relaxing getaway dashed?
Try Nantucket, where even the seagulls demand a cover charge.
A recent survey has crowned it the most expensive beach vacation in the world.
Yup. Nantucket is "the most expensive beach destination in the world," according to a recent survey by TravelMag.com.
You've heard about it, seen pictures of it, but unless you're rolling in dough, it's as mythical as a leprechaun riding a unicorn. If you're not a one percenter, you might as well be a ghost haunting the coastline.
TravelMag said it looked at the cheapest available double rooms around the world that were in at least three-star hotels and near the beach.
Nantucket starts at $694 per night," TravelMag wrote. "The second most expensive is Positano, on southern Italy's Amalfi Coast, at $481 per night."
Now, let's be real. Nantucket isn't just a getaway; it's a lifestyle. The playground of the rich and famous, where even the seashells have designer labels.
If you're not wearing a blazer that costs more than your monthly rent, are you even vacationing?
Picture this: cobblestone streets that double as runways for fancy stilettos, and beach cabanas so posh they make Buckingham Palace's gardens look like a public park.
The locals here don't just wave.
They give you a nod that says, "I own three yachts, how about you?"
But let's get serious for a moment.
It's hard not to raise an eyebrow when the average Joe can't even afford a cup of coffee without taking out a second mortgage. You'd think the sand was made of gold dust with the way prices are inflated. And don't even get us started on the rental market. Try finding an affordable Airbnb during peak season.
Nantucket, where the ocean breeze is infused with the aroma of wealth, and the waves crash in perfect harmony with the jingle of high-end jewelry.
If you're not a member of the elite, don't bother packing your bags. Instead, sit back, relax, and watch as the one percent sails by, leaving the rest of us to admire the island's beauty from afar.
Positano, Italy, scored #2. Montauk, New York came in third. France's Saint-Tropez landed at #4.
Fun fact
Lots of beach towns in New England topped the list. Kennebunkport, Maine ($405), Provincetown ($404), Bar Harbor, Maine ($384) and Portland, Maine ($317) all made the top 20.
