Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One is hitting theaters on July 12. Now, fans are getting their first look at the film's plot in its official trailer.

Per the trailer's YouTube description, "Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and his IMF team embark on their most dangerous mission yet: To track down a terrifying new weapon that threatens all of humanity before it falls into the wrong hands."

The description continues, "With control of the future and the fate of the world at stake, and dark forces from Ethan's past closing in, a deadly race around the globe begins. Confronted by a mysterious, all-powerful enemy, Ethan is forced to consider that nothing can matter more than his mission – not even the lives of those he cares about most."

This latest installment of the Mission: Impossible franchise has long been in the works. Nearly a year ago, Paramount released the teaser trailer for the film. Coincidently -- or, perhaps, not-so coincidently -- this teaser trailer was released around the time Top Gun: Maverick was finally hitting theaters.

The Top Gun sequel release was set for the summer of 2020. However, the ongoing coronavirus pandemic led to the temporary shutdown of movie theaters. At the insistence of Cruise, who also served as a producer of the sequel, the release of the film was delayed until May 2022 when theaters were open again. This choice was quite lucrative. Per Box Office Mojo, Top Gun: Maverick went on to gross $1.49 billion worldwide.
