Bryan Adams Shuts Down Interviewer that Asked About ‘Summer of ’69’

Bryan Adams does not want to talk about "Summer of '69," especially when he has a new album to promote.

During an interview with Australia's The Today Show to promote his new album So Happy It Hurts, co-host Belinda Russell asked what the hit song was about, but she was quickly shut down by Adams who said, "I don't want to talk about that. I want to talk about the new album. That's why I'm here." It was followed up by co-host David Campbell saying in response, "Wow, okay!" (The moment takes place at around the 1:30 mark in the video below.)

While the moment is certainly a bit cringe, Adams still managed to maintain that err of Canadian politeness even while shutting down the question.

Of course, we're sure Adams revealing in an interview in July 2020 that "Summer of '69" has a far dirtier meaning is what inspired the question in the first place. The singer-songwriter told Classic Rock back then, "The song is a bit autobiographical, but it’s really about summer love and, in my, case being a musician. I love the song 'Night Moves' by Bob Seger, which is about getting laid in the summer, and I always wanted to write an answer to that. There is a huge misconception that this song is about 1969, but it’s not. The reason I chose 69 is because of the sexual position."
