CSN Stand with Neil Young, Ask for Their Music to Be Pulled from Spotify

Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young have had a very rocky relationship, but David Crosby, Stephen Stills and Graham Nash proudly stand in support of Neil Young and his recent dispute with Spotify.

CSN issued the following joint statement: "We support Neil and we agree with him that there is dangerous disinformation being aired on Spotify's Joe Rogan podcast. While we always value alternate points of view, knowingly spreading disinformation during this global pandemic has deadly consequences. Until real action is taken to show that a concern for humanity must be balanced with commerce, we don't want our music — or the music we made together — to be on the same platform."

As previously reported, Young pulled his catalog from Spotify due to the Spotify-exclusive podcast The Joe Rogan Experience and its track record of spreading COVID misinformation.

Young would go to respond to those accusing him of trying to censor Rogan saying in a statement, "I support free speech. I have never been in favor of censorship. Private companies have the right to choose what they profit from, just as I can choose not to have my music support a platform that disseminates harmful information. I am happy and proud to stand in solidarity with the front line health care workers who risk their lives every day to help others."

This band statement might be part one of CSN's dealings with Spotify. Crosby took to Twitter and wrote, "If one of you can reach Taylor Swift I want very badly to speak with her...The reason for wanting to speak with Miss Swift is that she is the only one who has successfully kicked Spotify's ass. The only one I think. She could give us good advice. This isn’t over."

Swift famously kept her music off Spotify for three years over the streaming service's small percentage of royalty payouts to artists. She would rejoin the streaming service in 2018 when she signed a new record deal with Universal Music Group and Republic Records. Per Rolling Stone, "As part of her joint contract with the label, UMG must promise to hand over to artists, on a non-recoupable basis, a portion of the windfall from its Spotify shares in the future. Not just to Swift, but to all its artists."
