Matthew McConaughey has been toying with the idea of getting into Texas politics and word is he's eyeing the Governor's mansion.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, McConaughey has been openly flirting for months with the prospect of entering the race in 2022 to lead Texas as Governor. However, no one seems to know if he's actually serious about it.

Sources said that the actor hasn’t been fundraising or gathering a potential staff, aside from a few exploratory phone calls.

In a New York Times podcast interview with Kara Swisher published this week (10/7), McConaughey confirmed he’s "measuring" getting into the race, but also said he’s "not interested" unless he can affect real change.

He said in part, "Right now it’s a fixed game, you go in there, you just put on a bunch of band-aids, in four years you walk out, and they rip them off, and you’re gone?"

McConaughey did get vague when asked his political positions, saying, "I don’t talk politics, I talk people."
