Celebrate the Holiday (Shopping) Season With These Old Mall Ads

MCLEAN, VA – DECEMBER 24: Shoppers packed into Tysons Corner Center, a mall in suburban Washington, on Christmas Eve on December 24, 2008 in McLean, Virginia. Christmas shopping just hasn't been the same since the Woburn Mall set Santa up in front of the Frederick's of Hollywood.

I'm not making that up, by the way. Years ago, Santa's Village at the Woburn Mall was right outside of Frederick's. Peak unintentional comedy for the holidays. Sadly, the Woburn Mall is no more. And a lot of the other Boston-area malls we grew up shopping at are gone, too. So let's watch a bunch of old TV commercials and reminisce about simpler times. It is the holiday season, after all.

We'll start with the aforementioned Woburn Mall and an ad from 1994.

Remember the Swansea Mall? Watch Santa do some shopping back in 1985.

Is the Liberty Tree Mall still technically the Liberty Tree Mall? I know there are still a bunch of stores up in Danvers. Anyway, let's wrap up with a news story on the Liberty Tree from 1991.
