Coronavirus Prompts Sales of Wigs, Hair Extensions to Skyrocket
First it was toilet paper. Then it was board games, puzzles and meat.
Now, the coronavirus pandemic has prompted a spike in sales for another type of product: wigs and hair extensions.
Wig shops all across the country are reporting an increase in sales, which they believe is a result of the shutdown of salons in many parts of the country.
“You have to do something to uplift yourself,” Houston hairstylist Dwain Thomas told KTRK-TV. “If you’re looking like how you’re feeling, you’re just making this whole experience worse than what it is.”
Britney Winters, the owner of Houston’s Upgrade Salon, says the coronavirus’ connection to the sales spike is clear; when salons began reopening, sales dropped off — only to pick up again when the resurgence hit.
“It’s more than just hair,” she says. “When you look good, you feel good.”
