Petition Asking Governor Baker To Allow Hair Salons & Barbers To Soft Open
Haircuts – even during a global pandemic – are essential services, according to an online petition aimed at Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker.
The MoveOn.org petition is asking the governor to allow hair salons, barber shops, and cosmetologists to perform beauty services “privately with one client in the salon” per stylist at a time starting next week.
“Our industry needs to be recognized and deemed as an essential business so we can better serve our community,” the petition states. “We will serve one client at a time while wearing a mask and leave time in between clients to clean and wipe all surfaces.”
The authors of the petition say that “the survival of independent beauty professionals is at risk. We are facing a huge financial hardship.”
As of publish time, the petition had raked in 6,500 signatures.
