98.5 The Sports Hub staff report

Celtics heartbeat Marcus Smart is trying to use his experience with COVID-19 to help others, as Smart will donate blood plasma to the National COVID-19 Convalescent Plasma Project for research on the blood of those who have successfully recovered from the coronavirus, according to NBA insider Shams Charania.

According to Charania, the NBA is supporting the plasma research project.

Smart's focus on helping others comes after he announced that he was completely recovered from the virus less than two weeks after confirming his diagnosis on Mar. 19.  It's also not a shock given how outspoken and honest Smart has been about testing and people taking the proper precautions to keep themselves healthy throughout this global pandemic.

The NBA has certainly been the most severely impacted of the American big four when it comes to COVID-19; the virus first made its way to the NBA with a confirmed case hitting Utah's Rudy Gobert (and spreading to teammate Donovan Mitchell), and has hit the Nets (including Kevin Durant), Sixers organization, Smart, and Knicks owner James Dolan.

The NBA put their season on an indefinite suspension on Mar. 11, and are currently exploring all avenues to resume their season with a champion, including pushing the season late into the season and/or moving the playoffs to a neutral site.
