Last night (September 1) the Who kicked off their fall tour at New York's Madison Square Garden with an epic show featuring an orchestra and a setlist that spanned their career. They back to "Substitute," -- to quote Pete Townshend, that song is from "nineteen sixty-f---ing-six!" The newest two songs, meanwhile, are from their upcoming album. They've played both songs in England over the summer, but they've never been played in America.

The first one, "Hero Ground Zero," was inspired by a collaborator of Pete Townshend's. After the song, Townshend explained that that friend, with whom he worked on The Who's Tommy on Broadway, tragically passed away earlier in the day.

The second one has been referred to by fans as "Guantanamo," but it's actually called "Big Cigars."

The Who's next show is Tuesday, September 3, in Toronto. Get their tour dates here.
