The Soundgarden guitarist used the occasion of one new release to update us on the timeline of another new release.

First off, Soundgarden's Live From The Artist's Den box set is out today, featuring a catalogue-spanning, never-before-heard Soundgarden concert from 2013. So there's that, which is cool. Now, in case you didn't know, the band was demoing new material at the time of Chris Cornell's death in 2017. But according to Thayil, it might be awhile before we hear any of it. Here's a quote from a recent SPIN Magazine piece:

“Right now, that’s all kind of stalled. We tried to get this going two years ago, but we’re not in possession of any of the demos that Chris was working on. We have copies of them, but what we need are the files, so that we’d be able to overdub and finish the record. We are not in possession of those.”

Given the drama that seems to be surrounding the Cornell estate as of late, I wouldn't expect to hear new Soundgarden anytime soon. Dig into the SPIN article for more.
