David Ortiz in Stable Condition After Being Shot
We’re thinking of you, Big Papi!
Sunday was a bit scary for former Boston Red Sox great David Ortiz. He had to undergo emergency surgery following a shooting in the Dominican Republic.
Oritz was shot in the back at a bar and had to be rushed to the hospital. His father, Leo, said his son was out of danger and there wasn’t any collateral damage.
Officials say a suspect was detained at the scene and are trying to determine whether Ortiz was the intended target.
Ortiz is currently a special assistant to the Red Sox and maintains a home in the Dominican Republic.
MLB, The Red Sox, and Pedro Martinez tweeted updates.
