Whale Aid 2023 is happening at Big Night Live in Boston on Thursday, May 18. Let’s dive into the event and the lineup.

First up, Whale Aid is a proper music festival. Which means I need to add it to my rolling list of 2023 music festivals. That list isn’t just for Boston area music festivals like Boston Calling or even festivals that are taking place in Massachusetts. It’s a catch-all for any U.S. music festival this year that could be described as rock-forward or rock-adjacent. I just make those phrases up, I think. Oh, and speaking of Boston Calling, just a reminder that we’re giving away a pair of 3-Day VIP passes.

Now, for Whale Aid 2023. Again, it is a music festival. And it’s taking place at Big Night Live, right down by the Garden, on Thursday, May 18. What is it? It’s a benefit concert for North Atlantic right whales. Proceeds from ticket sales will go toward Whale and Dolphin Conservation‘s work to protect the North Atlantic right whale, which is currently categorized under “critically endangered” status. You can learn more about what WDC is doing to help the North Atlantic right whale, as well as the other species they’re working to protect, here.

The Whale Aid 2023 lineup is solid, too. So not only will you be giving money to a worthy endeavor, you’ll be getting some top-notch entertainment in return. Tickets are on sale now and you can get them here. Keep scrolling for the full lineup and for a little bit of music from some of the performers to help get you ready for the gig. And I apologize in advance for doing this, but I have to, since I’m a dad and it’s a dad joke:

You’ll have a WHALE of a time at Whale Aid 2023!

  • Jon Russel

You know Jon from Sup Pop recording artists The Head and The Heart.

  • Matt Quinn

Of Mt. Joy fame. I like this song of theirs because I’m convinced they’re making a Sunny Day Real Estate reference.

  • Marc Roberge

Boston has always been a hotbed of O.A.R. fandom, so you know Marc Roberge will be a big draw.

  • Brad Corrigan

Speaking of Boston, Dispatch of course have their roots here. So hell yeah, Brad solo acoustic set!
