February 17, 1972: Billie Joe Armstrong is born in Oakland, CA. Fun fact: the Green Day front man was born with his stage name, which is a claim not many rockers can make. Let’s celebrate Billie’s 50th by looking back at the 25th anniversary of the Hatch Shell riot.
February 17, 1972: Oliver Taylor Hawkins is born in Fort Worth, TX. Wild to think that two of rock’s biggest names over the past 25+ years were both born ON THE SAME DAY. Did you know the Foo Fighters drummer has a side project called Taylor Hawkins and the Coattail Riders? They were the special guest band at the 2006 WBCN Rock ‘n’ Roll Rumble. I couldn’t find any footage of that gig, but I did find a clip of Taylor at Great Scott in Allston!
February 17, 1977: The Eagles release Their Greatest Hits, an album seemingly everyone has owned a copy of at some point in their life. You know, since it’s sold 38 million copies.
Want more ROCK history, with a Boston twist? It’s all right here.
