The 2023 Rock & Roll Rumble Finals are set to take place at Sonia in Cambridge on Saturday, May 6. Let’s see who made it.

But first, let’s see how they made it there. After a few years off (thanks, COVID), the Rumble returned with a new field of 24 local acts. I wrote this piece, which gives a bit of the history of the Rumble and also introduces you to this year’s performers. I also was able to make it out to five of the six preliminary nights. I recapped the first round of prelim shows here, and I recapped the second round of prelim shows here.

Which brings us to last weekend’s semifinal round. I wasn’t able to attend, as I was doing Earth Day stuff with my family up in Maine. Thankfully, Rumble organizer and Boston Emissions host Anngelle Wood keeps the Rumble website up-to-date in good time. Friday night saw mod-pop-rock trio The Chelsea Curve defeat the field. Punk juggernaut One Fall took Saturday night. And the Finals field is rounded out with Ruin The Nite, a band made up of members of former Rumble champions Goddamn Draculas.

The 2023 Rock & Roll Rumble Finals Are Set

Speaking of Rumble Champions, the band that won it all in 2013–Eddie Japan–will be the 2023 special guest band. That’s four great, local bands for $20 on a Friday night in Central Square. I can’t say this enough: the overall vibe for this year’s Rumble has been welcoming, celebratory, and energetic. Watching these bands leave it all on the stage is about as satisfying of a live music experience anyone can ask for.
