Just in time for your Halloween watch list, it’s our list of the best Stephen King movies. Or, rather, your list.
Last month, on Stephen King’s birthday, I threw together a list of two dozen of his movie adaptations, spanning close to 50 years of films. I turned that list into a 12-Inch Poll, you voted, and now I’m taking the top finishers and sharing them. So if there’s a movie that’s missing that’s a favorite of yours, that’s on you. Like King has his Constant Readers, I have my Constant Listeners. And if you’re one, you’re in on the ground floor of the Poll every week.
As I mentioned a few weeks ago, I’m a huge King fan. I started reading him when I was probably too young and I’ve watched my lion’s share of King films over the years. So for the Poll, I sliced up a cross-section of 24 of what I believe to be the biggest, best Stephen King movies. Most of them were big-screen affairs, but I threw a few TV adaptations into the mix, too. You scrolled, you voted, and now we have your list.
The 12 Best Stephen King Movies, Chosen By You
Before we dig into the list, a couple of plugs, if you don’t mind. This week’s 12-Inch Poll is about the greatest horror movie villains. And a baddie from a Stephen King movie is on the list (you can probably guess who it is). Also, since it’s October, I also just put together a list of The 12 Most Haunted Places in Massachusetts. OK, now that the Halloween-themed plugs are out of the way, let’s dive into the list. Speaking of Halloween, see how many of these you can watch before the big day at the end of the month. I’m going to try and marathon all of them! Well, the scary ones, at least.
