“Aerosmith plays Fenway.” It feels so good to finally type that. The big show was last night, and there was a pre-show, too.
You know the story. January 27, 2020. That’s when media outlets all over–including here at ROCK 92.9–started spreading the word that Aerosmith had announced a 50th Anniversary Show. The show was to take place at Fenway Park on September 18, 2020. About six weeks after the announcement, as you may recall, all hell broke loose. Fast-forward to July of 2020. The band moves the show to September 14, 2021. Fast-forward once again to May of 2021, when the band rescheduled once again to September 8, 2022. Almost two years. But the wait was worth it.
Aerosmith rocked Fenway last night and we have the pictures to prove it below. Before the show, Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler popped by the band’s old stomping grounds. You know this story, too. The storied “Aerosmith Apartment,” on the second story of 1325 Comm. Ave. in Allston, is where the band lived for a time in the ’70s. They even played a show in front of the building 10 years ago to celebrate their early days there. Boston.com reports that Tyler showed up on Wednesday night after the band rehearsed:
“The building was one of five that hosted flashing Aerosmith-themed projections ahead of the rock band’s Fenway Park concert Thursday night. But no one expected the 74-year-old rock star to show up.”
Show up he did, posing for photos and chatting it up with building residents and locals who just happened to be in the right place at the right time.
