Fenway Park announces new payment system and more ahead of home opener

  • When Red Sox fans return to Fenway Park for the 2022 home opener against the Minnesota Twins on Friday, they will find a series of upgrades and innovations throughout the ballpark. Here is a quick look at what to expect inside the ballpark this season.

    Cashless Payment System

    In a major change in payment options, Fenway Park will no longer be accepting cash as a payment method. Credit and debit cards, in addition to touch payments such as Apple Pay, will now be the required payment form for concessions. 

  • Truly Terrace

    Sitting at the top of the right field bleachers, the new terrace offers a full view of the ballpark, with similar drink stands to the roof deck behind the right field foul pole. The deck offers new drink locations as well, featuring Truly seltzers and new craft beers, along with a viewing area and more bathrooms.

  • New NESN Studio

    After years of reporting on-site throughout Fenway Park, NESN will now cover the action from a brand new studio around the Truly Terrace. The new area closely resembles the recently renovated studio at NESN’s Watertown location. Pregame and postgame coverage can now take place in the park.

  • 521 Overlook

    Named after Ted Williams’ 521 career home runs, the overlook sits above the Truly Terrace with indoor and outdoor views across Fenway Park. Side rooms within the overlook can also be rented out for group outings. According to the team, the distance from home plate to 521 Overlook is approx. 521 feet.

  • New Video Boards

    Staying in the right field area, two new 50-foot LED video boards offer the latest renovation to this area of the park. They will replace the previous boards underneath the New Balance sign.

  • New Concessions

    A wide variety of new, intriguing food options are also coming to Fenway Park, from Cheeto Hot Dogs to Fluffer Nutter Fries. Businesses such as Sal’s Pizza and MingsBings will also debut at the ballpark this season.
