If you’re looking to make a positive impact on the environment in your neighborhood, this is a great place to start.

I’ve wrangled 6 local organizations to support on Earth Day…and beyond! And I didn’t just run a Google search. These are all environmental movers and shakers that I’m a member of or that I’ve supported with donations and volunteer hours.

And the best part? Supporting the environment on the local level doesn’t take much. A few dollars here, a link passed along there, an event or two…pretty soon, you’ll be making a difference for the planet. And you’ll feel good about it, too.

  • Appalachian Mountain Club

What does the Appalachian Mountain Club do? “We promote the protection, enjoyment, and understanding of the outdoors in America’s Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions.” And with 741 miles of the Appalachian Trail winding through 5 New England states, there’s plenty to enjoy.

  • Breathe Clean North Shore

Breathe Clean North Shore is a community organization that came together to fight the “the planned dirty energy peaker plant in Peabody” and who “seek to engage our community to move forward in a way that spotlights the environment, tackles the urgency of climate change and champions sustainability. Good folks who care about Peabody and the surrounding communities. I’ve stood out with them and I stand by them.

  • Mass Audubon

Mass Audubon is one of the largest conservation organizations in New England, with 140,000 members & more than 40,000 acres of protected land. And I’d be willing to be they have a sanctuary near you. Become a member and take advantage! I’ve been a card-carrying member for close to a decade.

  • Mass Climate Action Network

Simply put, “The Mass Climate Action Network works on the grassroots level to build a livable, breathable, equitable future.” From climate change to net-zero building advocacy, Mass Climate is on top of the issues of the day.

  • Massachusetts Sierra Club

The Bay State chapter of the Sierra Club. They have a variety of ways to get involved, and are a great organization for kids and teens that are budding activists looking to volunteer.

  • 350 Mass

350 Mass is all about action: “Join thousands of Massachusetts residents fighting for our state’s speedy & just transition to 100% renewables.” Sounds like a good plan to me! Get involved.
