Big sigh...the holidays are over. After a long stint away from work, filled with plenty of highs, there's a sense of relief, but also a sense of the winter doldrums.  Before that rollercoaster ride comes back down to earth, consider making plans for something fun to look forward to. Check out 5 cool winter festivals and events happening in Massachusetts in the shiny, bright New Year.

Winter weather doesn't have to revolve around indoor activities. There's a plethora of fun things to do and see to get you outside. Thanks to Only in MassachusettsI'm able to share a few of these events that are quickly approaching. Take a look at 5 cool winter festivals and events happening in Massachusetts to get you skating, enjoying live music, firepits, ice sculpture and food trucks (to name a few).

Some of these festivals and events may require a bit of travel, and perhaps an overnight stay to make for a true getaway, but all are located in Massachusetts. You'll notice some details on the event websites aren't available yet, but keep checking back as they will be soon. Schedule one or all of these in your calendar and enjoy all our great state has to offer, even in the dead of winter.

Wash away your winter blues with live music, exhibitions, bonfires, food trucks and rides. There are family friendly events to enjoy all over the state, as well as adult fun in the evening. These happenings are all over the Massachusetts map. Winter festivals and events are taking place from the Southeastern part of the state, to the heart of Boston and out in the western part of Mass.

Boston's New City Hall Plaza Skate Path

January 1- February 25, 2024

This is a first! New England's first custom designed ice skating path. It's open now at Boston's City Hall Plaza, and will take you through "the magical winter market and activities" that are spread across the Plaza. There is some cool winter programming and activities aimed to keep you happy in the dead of winter. After your skate, head over to City Hall Plaza's Urban Lodge for a bevvy to warm your soul. 2. Lowell WinterFest

FEBRUARY 16-17

Are you ready to embrace winter in Lowell? This spectacular winter event is filled with the sound of live music, the smells of delicious food being served hot, entertaining exhibitions and demonstrations, art and crafting, and even a winter market! 3. Greenfield Winter Carnival

FEBRUARY 2-4, 2024

The Western Massachusetts town of Greenfield invites you to "be a part of a tradition that began 102 years ago!" This is a big deal in the Franklin County town that is located north of Springfield. They have a laser light show, a parade of lights, fireworks, ice sculptures, a cardboard sled race, chili cookoff, ice skating and much, more more. Check it out here:

4. Attleboro Winter Night

FEBRUARY 17, 2024

Time: 4:30-7:30pm

Jugglers, bonfires and unicorns...oh my! It's all happening in the southeastern Massachusetts city of Attleboro. Enjoy artists at work and their art from paintings to jewelry. Take a train ride around the festival grounds, jump on a hayride, grab some food at the food court. You can even take a ride on a unicorn! More details below.

5. Easthampton Winterfest

FEBRUARY 10, 2024

Winterfest in this Pioneer Valley town located near the 5 colleges (in college towns of Northhampton and Amherst) has plenty to keep you entertained this February. And it all starts with a pancake breakfast. There are ice carving demos, wagon rides, snow making and even a bonfire. Fun for all ages! It looks like many of the Winterfest events are free, but some ask for a donation to the Nashawannuck Pond Steering Committee.
