Last July, while season two was still airing on the streaming service, it was announced that Arconia neighbors Mabel, Oliver, and Charles (Selena Gomez, Martin Short, and Steve Martin, respectively) would reunite to solve another case. In season two, the trio uncovered the identity of who killed Bunny (Jayne Houdyshell). After a one-year time jump, Mabel attends the opening night of Oliver's new Broadway show, which Charles also stars in. Picking up where this cliffhanger left off, in season three, the trio will be investigating another murder.
The Cast, Old, and New
Ben Glenroy, (played by Paul Rudd) is an arrogant Hollywood action star whose Broadway debut is cut short by his untimely death. (This happened in the post-credits scene of the season two finale.) Charles "threatens" him before he goes on stage; we can see that the two haven't been getting along throughout the production. When Glenroy starts his opening lines, he suddenly stops, collapses, and blood comes out of his mouth. His character's death will be the central story for season 3, so we will see more of Rudd in the new season via flashback scenes. Also joining the cast is co-star Loretta Durkin (played by Meryl Streep).
Another newcomer to the series is Jesse Williams, who will play a documentarian with a particular interest in the case. Other newcomers Ashley Park, Jeremy Shamos, Linda Emond, and Wesley Taylor are also cast in undisclosed recurring roles. Ryan Broussard confirmed he will be returning as Will Putnam, the son of Martin’s character Oliver. Michael Cyril Creighton’s character, Howard Morris, would be upped to a series regular for the series’ third outing. It is unclear if Da’Vine Joy Randolph and Tina Fey will reprise their roles as Detective Williams and Cinda Canning, respectively.
Showrunner John Hoffman explained to The Hollywood Reporter that, "If season one was a little more focused on the emotional storyline for Mabel and Tim Kono, and season two was a little more emotionally connected to Charles and his relationship with his father and himself, I’m very excited to both lean into the theatrical side of New York City and also into Oliver and his world."

The Show Must…

She seems ditsy and innocent enough, but as we've learned from the first two seasons, that doesn't mean jack s---. We believe she could have a personal vendetta set out against Glenroy. We liked Amy Ryan's Jan Bellows in season one!
The Beat Goes On
Patrick Harbron/HuluFrom the second episode, Mabel and Will (Oliver's son) hit the stage in the attempt to revive his shaky Broadway show. What better way to solve a murder than put yourself in their shoes (or tapshoes)? We think Will's involvement on stage means he will get more involved in the solving of the murder. After all, he is a Putnam.
The Beat Goes On
Patrick Harbron/HuluSomething about Charles Savage pinching his sequined hat doesn't sit right with us. His character looks very out of place in a Broadway musical, but his involvement in the play will probably get us the best information.
Like Father, Like Son?
HuluWe know Will isn't Oliver's biological son, but they both very much love each other like they are. Does Will have the theater chops to make his dad proud? We think he does, and that he will be involved in solving the case. Perhaps as bait for the killer?
Regrets, He's Had A Few
HuluWhile standing in Ben's dressing room, Charles has a look of remorse or sadness. We think he feels guilty about Ben's death and maybe he thinks things could have been different if they got along?
Curtain Call
HuluMabel isn't really one to hide her emotions and in this still, she seems quite shook at what's going on in front of her. We believe it's Loretta's acting. Though we only see the back of his head, it looks as though it's Arconia's resident yodelshopper, Howard Morris, who said he had auditioned for Broadway.
Cupid's Arrow
HuluThese two have the look of love written across their faces. Is it the real deal, or is Oliver facing a similar situation that Charles did in season one with Jan (Amy Ryan)?
