The Boston Bruins hosted the 2023 Winter Classic at Fenway Park. Were you there? These photos will make you feel like you were.

The NHL Winter Classic has now officially entered its 15th year. The New Years Day tradition debuted on January 1, 2008. The first of the league’s annual outdoor exhibitions took place at Ralph Wilson Stadium in Orchard Park, New York. The Pittsburg Penguins beat the Buffalo Sabers 2-1 in a shootout in front of a crowd of over 70,000 hockey fans.

Since then, the game has become a beginning-of-the-year staple for both hardcore and causal fans of hockey and the NHL. And Boston fans have been blessed. This most recent Winter Classic marks the fourth time the Bruins have been invited to participate in the outdoor match. Their first Boston appearance took place in 2010 at Fenway Park, where the B’s beat the Philadelphia Flyers 2-1 in overtime.

The B’s were back “at home” in 2016, where they hosted the Montreal Canadiens at Gillette Stadium. They fell 5-1. I was on hand for the pre-game that year, but I never got at ticket to get in. I suppose that was for the best. Then, in 2019, it was the Boston Bruins over the Chicago Blackhawks 4-2 in a Stanley Cup rematch of sorts. That took place in front of 75,000+ at Notre Dame Stadium. I think the Bruins would trade that Winter Classic win for a Cup win 100 times out of 100.
