I don't know how many times we've had to say the same thing. Trust no one, help no one. If you see a man with a gas can asking for a ride to the gas station, we suggest not giving him the ride. Too many times does it end poorly. And, for one guy, he ended up getting carjacked. Then, the carjacker was in a high speed chase and eventually killed.
According to KVUE, "A musician from California is recalling the moment when he said an act of kindness turned into a traumatic armed carjacking that ended in a deadly shooting involving law enforcement. Alexander Opdyke of Sacramento said he was outside a Safeway in Sacramento County when he struck up a conversation with a man who was carrying a gas can. Opdyke said he offered the man and the man's partner a ride, but he said the situation quickly escalated as soon as they got into his car. “Almost immediately, his whole demeanor changed," Opdyke recalled. Shortly after, the man turned to Opdyke and reportedly threatened to take his vehicle. The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office said the man led deputies on a chase. Investigators said the man pointed a gun at deputies, who then shot and killed him."
If only everyone could hear our message of Trust No One, Help No One. It's a crazy world and you'd love it for someone to pick you up if you needed a ride to the gas station but, it's just not like that anymore. I mean, you could even be at risk because the person picking you up could be dangerous.
Chuck performs a song about this guy struggling with the fact that all of this might be his fault.
Enjoy!
