The Town and The City Festival will return to downtown Lowell from Thursday, April 30, to Saturday, May 2. This event will offer attendees access to more than 50 musical acts, 19 shows across multiple downtown Lowell venues, and a literary reading by Chris Wrenn from Fenway Punk. Tickets are on sale now on the event's website.
Porter Productions and the Jack Kerouac Foundation produce the festival. It honors the legacy of Lowell native Jack Kerouac by showcasing the work of local, regional, and national artists.
Festival Highlights
According to a Broadway World report, opening night will be on Thursday, April 30, at 7:30 p.m., at Taffeta Music Hall. It will feature headliners Boston alt-emo band Future Teens. The event bill also includes Lowell-based Western Education and Toluca Lake.
On Friday, May 1, the music begins at 7:15 p.m. at the Merrimack Repertory Theatre, featuring Kris Delmhorst, John Doe of X, and David Lowery of Cracker and Camper Van Beethoven. The evening will continue across multiple venues, including The Old Court, Thirsty First, The Worthen, Tescobar, Warp & Weft, and The Last Safe & Deposit Co.
On Saturday, May 2, festival guests can enjoy free daytime shows at Brew'd Awakening beginning at 2 p.m. and a free 3 p.m. outdoor concert on the Bicentennial Stage at Middle Street. This concert is co-presented by the City of Lowell and features Copilot and Vundabar.
Activities will wrap up on Saturday evening with author Chris Wrenn reading at LaLa Books at 7 p.m. A performance by Grace Givertz follows, along with a comedy showcase at Cobblestones at 8:30 p.m. hosted by Kristen O'Brien and headlined by Tony V.
Music performances continue during the evening at venues including The Worthen, Merrimack Repertory Theatre, Smokehouse Tavern, The Old Court, Thirsty First, and Warp & Weft. Artists such as Tanya Donelly and Chris Brokaw will debut a new collaborative project involving Steve Wynn, Nigel Wearne, Jon Langford and Friends, Cristina Vane, Megan From Work, and others.
