As the severe winter storm has started making its way across the country, the latest forecasts are now calling for even higher snow totals for Boston.

Early in the week, it appeared much of the region would actually miss out on the majority of the winter weather associated with this massive storm system. But as track shifts have come into focus, some of the "worst-case scenario" situations have started to pop up.

Overnight, model tracks started upping snowfall totals in the area, and increasing mixed precipitation and icing along the south coast regions.

That puts Boston in the area of 18 inches of snow. Of course, things can still change, as there are still lots of shifts can happen. But the National Weather Service puts the snowfall amount confidence at 70-80 percent.

We'll update more this afternoon when the next set of models come through. Those should give better information.
