It's hard to find someone who doesn't like the movie 'Elf.' It has everything--humor, holiday spirit, Will Ferrell in an elf costume. However, is 'Elf' still the most recent Christmas classic?

New Christmas movies come out every year--in the masses. You have networks seemingly devoted to creating nothing but Christmas movies. The problem? They're often the same movie. Someone visits home, runs into someone of the opposite sex who's the exact opposite of them, and by the end of the movie they're together and happy. Every. Single. Time. It's been a long time since we've had a real Christmas classic. In fact, 'Elf' really might be the most recent--and that was 2003! Am I missing one?

Is 'Elf' Still The Most Recent Christmas Classic?

I consider The Santa Clause movie with Tim Allen to be a classic. That was 1994. How The Grinch Stole Christmas with Jim Carrey was 2000. Love Actually was 2003 and Home Alone 1990. A Christmas Story is even older as it came out in 1983. Most other Christmas classics are even older than that.

What do we have recently? The Christmas Chronicles with Kurt Russell are good movies--made me cry like a baby. However, can I call them a Christmas classic? Meh. The Holiday with Jude Law and Jack Black was 2006. That's more recent than Elf and I love it. But is it big enough to be a Christmas classic? Or is it more of a cult Christmas classic? It might be the closest thing we have!

What do you think? Am I missing something?

Cort Freeman was born and raised in Metro Detroit. He was named Clarkston High School 2009 Class Clown 13 years after graduating. Totally normal thing to happen. That’s thanks to his time spent as an Intern at Comedy Central and Social Media Correspondent for The Colbert Report. Cort has done comedy across the country, both standing up and sitting down. When he’s not trying to make you laugh on-air and online, he’s probably at home enjoying his favorite shows like Seinfeld, South Park, and The Office. He’s also totally uncomfortable writing about himself in the third person. Cort enjoys writing about comedy, food, sports, and entertainment. So, basically anything and everything.
