Big Y, a Springfield-based supermarket chain, announced plans to open four new stores across Massachusetts between 2026 and 2027.
According to Boston.com, the chain announced earlier this month that two new stores would open in eastern Massachusetts in 2026. One is slated to open in Pembroke at 24 Mattakeesett St., replacing a former Stop & Shop. A second will open in Saugus at 357 Broadway, replacing a former Amazon Fresh store. Both locations are expected to open in the spring to summer period of 2026, according to the release.
The chain announced in November that two more stores will open in southeastern Massachusetts, with a targeted opening of spring to summer of 2027. One store will be in Fairhaven at 7-9 Plaza Way, replacing a former Big Lots, and another will open in North Dartmouth on Faunce Corner Road, replacing a former Christmas Tree Shops location.
“These four new stores represent a significant milestone in Big Y's ongoing expansion into new towns throughout Massachusetts,” Michael D'Amour, Big Y's president and CEO, said in a statement shared with Boston.com. “With new locations in Pembroke, Saugus, Fairhaven, and North Dartmouth, we're excited to become a part of new communities that we can serve and create welcoming spaces where customers feel at home.”
Big Y expects to release further details on hiring and grand opening events in the coming months.
