The Salvation Army kicked off its Red Kettle Campaign for the holiday season with midday events at local Market Basket locations on Friday, Nov. 14. Those locations included Middleton, North Andover, and Reading. The kickoff is part of the Salvation Army's annual campaign, underscoring a long-standing community tradition of holiday fundraising to support local services.
The Salvation Army in Lawrence aims to raise approximately $100,000 through this year's Red Kettle Campaign to help those in need across the Merrimack Valley, organizers said in a news release.
Operating locally for more than 100 years, The Salvation Army has relied upon its Red Kettle campaign since the 1890s to provide support and services to the community.
According to the release, the Salvation Army Massachusetts Division works each day to provide critical resources, including Christmas gifts and food, support with bills, and shelter for those without a home. On average, volunteer bell ringers raise enough money to provide approximately 250 meals to children and families in their respective towns, organizers said.
