The City of Quincy will unveil the new John Quincy Adams Park on Saturday, Nov. 15, at 11 a.m., at the corner of Hancock Street and Chestnut Street in Quincy Center. Members of the public are invited to attend.

Set within the line of sight of the historic Hancock-Adams Common, the park honors the life and enduring legacy of John Quincy Adams. Adams was the sixth president of the United States, a diplomat, congressman, and champion of education, civil liberties, and public service.

“This new park gives us an opportunity to honor John Quincy Adams in a way that is fitting to his monumental contributions—not only to Quincy, but to the nation and the world,” shared Mayor Thomas P. Koch in a news release.

According to the city's media release, the park features base relief motifs that detail Adams' many accomplishments. These accomplishments include the Treaty of Ghent and Adams' roles in Congress and as secretary of state and U.S. president. Adams is the son of the nation's second president, John Adams, and First Lady Abigail Adams.

Professor Randall Woods will serve as the keynote speaker for the dedication ceremony. Woods is the Distinguished Professor and Cooper Chair in American History at the University of Arkansas, where he has taught since 1971. In addition to writing a biography on Adams, Woods has developed numerous books on American political, diplomatic, and social history. He is a four-time-nominated writer for the Pulitzer Prize and the National Book Award.
