The Morrill Memorial Library in Norwood is relaunching a program that provides public access to Massachusetts court services. This access includes virtual court resources and legal aid, as part of the Massachusetts Trial Court Law Library's Public Library Initiative.

The program provides computer and internet access for court-related searches and services, enabling residents to navigate legal resources easily.

A press conference to announce the relaunch is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 1, and will feature library and court officials. These individuals will include Morrill Memorial Library Director Clayton Cheever; Maureen Amyot, director of the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners; Norwood General Manager Tony Mazzucco; and Robert DeFabrizio, senior manager of law libraries for the Massachusetts Trial Court.

Liz Reed, head of the Morrill Memorial Library's Adult and Information Services Department, stated that the community has responded favorably to these services.

“We have helped folks attend court remotely,” she said in a statement shared with WickedLocal.com. “Their privacy is very important, so we don't ask a lot of questions, but all sorts of circumstances can lead to people coming to us for help with legal issues.”

Since its initial launch in 2022, the program has expanded from serving a single court branch to all Massachusetts courts, allowing remote attendance and access to various court services. The Morrill Memorial Library offers a range of court services for the community, including virtual court registries, Court Service Centers, and Trial Court Law Libraries, as well as Zoom sessions with a Law Librarian.

According to WickedLocal.com, the library was chosen because it's easily accessible for many Norfolk County residents and is served by public bus routes. It's one of approximately 15 sites throughout the state where patrons can utilize remote court services.

The library is open Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
