The new MBTA parking garage at North Quincy station, located at 189 Hancock St., opened on Monday, Sept. 15, following six years of construction.

According to a Boston.com report, construction on the garage began on Feb. 17, 2019, replacing the original surface-level parking lot at the station. The new garage has more than 1,500 parking spaces, including 852 dedicated to MBTA users and 700 for residential and retail purposes.

An MBTA spokesperson told The Patriot Ledger that parking rates are $5 on weekdays and $3 on weekends, with overnight parking allowed. Commuters are asked to use the PayByPhone app to cover their parking charges.

As noted by Boston.com, the project is part of a redevelopment effort by Hancock Street Partners. It was completed in phases to minimize disruptions to the station's access and parking.

With the opening of the new North Quincy station parking garage, the former parking lot at Newport Avenue will be closed to commuters and reserved for MBTA internal operations, an MBTA spokesperson confirmed with The Patriot Ledger. Pedestrian access, however, will remain open, with a “park and pedal” bike cage to be added later as part of the station's enhanced amenities.
