NEW YORK, NY – APRIL 30: A driver uses a phone while behind the wheel of a car on April 30, 2016 in New York City. As accidents involving drivers using phones or other personal devices mount across the country, New York lawmakers have proposed a new test called the Textalyzer to help curb mobile phone usage behind the wheel. Similar to a Breathalyzer test, the Textalyzer would allow police to request phones from drivers involved in accidents and then determine if the phone had been used while the drivers operated their vehicles. The controversial bill is currently in the early committee stage. According to statistics, In 2014 431,000 people were injured and 3,179 were killed in car accidents involving distracted drivers. Are people eating more "risky" moves while driving? The data says we are! Do you eat soup or ribs while driving?
According to Life 360, 72% of people who eat while driving admit to enjoying some "risky" meals in the driver's seat such as BBQ ribs or a bowl of soup. April is National Distracted Driving Awareness Month and it's a good time for people to be hitting the road. When you take that summer road trip, you want to get there safely. That means using your seatbelt, your turn signals, and being careful what you eat while driving. People can have some odd behaviors while driving that's for sure. You might do some of these or maybe you've seen them on the road.
People Eating More 'Risky' Meals While Driving
According to Life 360, nearly half (42%) of Gen Z drivers admit to watching online videos while driving and over a third (37%) confess to scrolling social media while behind the wheel. I'm surprised that number isn't higher, honestly. Other behaviors that are common on the road include changing clothes, putting on makeup, painting nails, shaving, and reading. All of those are normal activities but if you do them while driving it could be dangerous.
Life 360 says that Michigan, Florida, Texas, California, Arizona, and North Carolina are some of the states that engage in riskier behaviors while driving. Those areas tend to have more distracted drivers according to the data.
