Fifty years ago, a man-eating shark terrorized the film world. This year, the Steven Spielberg classic “Jaws” marks a milestone. Martha's Vineyard, the site of much of the filming for the Hollywood blockbuster, is commemorating the occasion with a series of events taking place this June.
Amity Week
- The Wharf Pub in Edgartown will host several nights of a "Meet, Greet, and Mingle Party" with Jeffrey Voorhees, who played Alex Kinter in the film.
- Rosewater Wine & Spirits will hold a "Drink Like Quint" event over several days, featuring Narragansett's Jaws Lager tastings.
- Pet owners can bring their furry friends out for "Barks and Sharks: A Jaws-Inspired Doggie Costume Meetup" and dress their canines in shark-themed costumes.
- Members of the public can meet Martha's Vineyard residents who were part of the film's production and tour the Amity Island locations made famous in the movie. These spots include the town center, the ferry launch to Chappaquiddick Island, the Joseph A. Sylvia State Beach, and the American Legion Memorial Bridge.
- The Martha's Vineyard Museum will unveil a unique exhibition featuring film props, photographs, and more memorabilia from the film's production.
