A coyote was captured inside a Chicago Aldi grocery store! Not what you expect to see at your local store.

Have you ever seen a coyote inside a grocery store? I imagine it’s a pretty rare sight. However, shoppers inside this Aldi store in Chicago, Illinois might have gotten a glimpse of it. It had to be pulled out of a fridge shelf and it looked like it really wanted whatever was in there. Was A Coyote Captured Inside A Chicago Aldi Store?

In the video, you can see an officer working hard to remove an animal from a fridge shelf in the store. Before you’re able to see that it’s a coyote you’d probably assume it was a rat or maybe an opossum that somehow got in there. However, if you assumed that you would, indeed, be mistaken. You’d never think it would be a coyote but that’s what it was.

It reportedly happened at an Aldi store on the 800 block of North Kedzie around 9:45 in the morning. The coyote was safely removed and taken into custody. The Chicago Animal Care and Control said in a statement to NBC Chicago, “The animal is currently at our facility awaiting transfer to our wildlife rehabilitation partner, Flint Creek Wildlife Rehabilitation. The coyote appears uninjured, but Flint Creek will conduct an assessment to confirm its health before releasing it back into the wild if deemed appropriate.” Chicago police also confirmed that no humans were injured during the incident inside the store.

NBC Chicago notes that January through March is coyote mating season which might lead to increased activity and sightings as they look for mates. Animal Control tells NBC Chicago, “While coyotes are generally not a threat to humans, it’s always best to avoid interaction and for people to secure food sources to minimize encounters.” Right, even if you’re not attacked or if the coyote doesn’t mind you, you probably don’t want it going through all the food that’s out in the grocery store. That might be a bit gross.

You really never know what you might see at the grocery store. It could be coyote captured by officers, your former teacher in their pajamas, some sort of crime, and more! Anything is possible at the grocery store, I guess.
